If you remember that Irish Spring commercial then you are old.
I remember it.
Ahem….Anyway the University of Barcelona has done a study on the effects of a strong cup of coffee on men and women.
For the study they used 668 volunteers. This is odd. Why not 670? 665? Nope. 668. Healthy volunteers.
And I think it was weird they felt the need to say “healthy volunteers.” I mean who chooses sick people to test coffee?

They gave volunteers espressos, one containing 100 mgs of caffeine and one containing 5 mgs and men reacted more strongly to women to the 100 mgs. The researchers [...]
Post from: Kettle and Cup

They gave volunteers espressos, one containing 100 mgs of caffeine and one containing 5 mgs and men reacted more strongly to women to the 100 mgs. The researchers said that they thought some of it was psychological because many of the men also reacted favorably to the decaf.

I refuse to make a comment about that.

Anyway, interesting study. Now, could someone explain to me why in the world someone needed to get some sort of grant to fund a study to find out information that no one needs?

So, yet another study has come out with the claim that coffee is a health food. Because…don’t cha know…. drinking coffee decreases your risk of liver cancer.
When are they going to get it that most coffee drinkers Do. Not. Give. A. Flip? Let’s face it, if I wanted to drink something because it was healthy for me I would be guzzling acai juice and following it with a crunchy organic lettuce leaf. Mmmm….mmmm…

Mmmm….mmmm…

Nope. The folks that get the big bucks from the government for research do not seem to understand that coffee drinkers drink coffee because…..we like it. We don’t care if it is good for us, if it is not good for us, and truth be known, most of us would drink coffee that isn’t organic OR fair trade if it came down to choosing between that and no coffee. We are so easily sold out for a 10.95 bag.

Liver? My liver can take care of its self, thanks… it can love coffee or hate it, I don’t care. I stopped drinking anything alcoholic (with the exception of the very rare glass of wine ) before my kids were born…and my oldest is 26. That should count for something with my liver.

I do not drink coffee for my liver, I drink it for my inner bohemian artist that honestly believes that I am living it up on the Left Bank, wearing flowers in my hair, and sipping coffee every afternoon at a bistro.

I love the way it smells. I love the way it tastes. I love the way it looks in the cup…

Coffee is not a health food. It isn’t supposed to be. Some things should be enjoyed for the pure hedonistic thrill of enjoying them. Being barefoot, skinny dipping, licking warm ganache off the spoon, sipping a hot cup of coffee watching the sun come up….or go down….

Somehow we want everything to be comfortable labeled so as to be acceptable. Chocolate is now “healthy”. Coffee? “Healthy” eventually some researcher is going to figure out a way to slap a Healthy label on a pack of Winstons and Phillip Morris is going to be doing the happy dance.

Healthy coffee? We don’t need no stinkin’ healthy coffee, round here. So just git yore white lab coats on and head off yonder to the Noni Juice stand, ya hear?

Hey, did you hear the John Wayne accent when I said that, didja?
