A few weeks ago a magazine stole content from me. Even after being contacted by b5media and me they totally ignored us and blew us off.

Cupcakes and Tea at the Ritz

I was reading various headlines and came upon this story about the Ritz Carlton’s Cupcake Tea. It is from the Forbes blog. For $25.00 you can have tea at the Ritz, amazing in itself, and enjoy tiny cupcakes made from incredible (according to the reporter) flavor combinations.

Anyway, I thought it was a great idea. I mean, the traditional tea things are beautiful and wonderful, and I hope that those dainty finger sandwiches and tiny tarts will always be part of tea. But this is a purely American take on it, I think, and mini cupcakes in exotic flavors, coupled with beautiful surroundings and really good tea is phenomenal.

It is a great idea for a shower or something that you want to be special but somewhat casual. With cupcakes as popular as they are you can get everything from adorable laser cut cupcake papers to unusual flavorings.

I am going to be doing a roundup of themed tea and cupcake ideas in the next few days.

What do you think? Is this a fun take on tradition or should cupcakes be left to room mothers and school children?

Cindy Rushton Makes It Easy

If you have homeschooled very long you probably know who Cindy Rushton is. I have kept up with her books and thoughts on homeschooling for a really long time…always found them to be helpful..Then she started branching out..and I began writing as well..and I could not keep up with her as well as I had before.

She has posted an exerpt from her book on her blog on how to get started with tea. It is a cozy read and there are some great ideas as well as ecouragement for those of you that feel like you just don’t have the time or the stuff!

And once you get over to her blog..you are going to get lost..so be sure to have a cup of tea (or coffee) poured before you head over there.

Make Your Own Decorated Sugar Cubes

The other day the store had sugar cubes clearanced! I can’t imagine that they weren’t all gone, they were less than $1 a box! Granted they were plain…..

I have always loved the beautifully decorated sugar cubes that you can buy to go with tea..but sometimes the prices are beyond what I can pay. Umm..ALL the time the prices are beyond what I can pay. Anyway..I got some with the idea of spending a little time learning to decorate them.

What I found was that egg white melts the sugar but royal icing is perfect..So in order to put the nonpariels on firmly I put a layer of royal icing and then carefully dipped the sugar cube tops in. I LOVE it. Next I tried colored sugar, and then finally tiny royal icing leaves and rose buds.

This could become an addiction. It took me less than 15 minutes to do several cubes, with not THAT much mess…umm..comparatively. Now Shiloh is in there making some..I will take pictures of hers and post them later today.. She has been humming and decorating for about 20 minutes so far..LOL! But hey, if my twelve year old can do it so can you!

Use your imagination..this was FUN!
