It’s getting into those dull arid days of Summer, and keeping your garden looking spiffy is becoming quite the chore. Here is a few plants that can beat the heat on those dry Summer days!
Black Eyed Susan
This is usually a perennial, but some varieties are annuals and biennials. They bloom all Summer and usually prefer full sun, though they will tolerate partial shade.
Blanket Flower
Depending on the variety, it can be annual or perennial. Blooms Summer to Fall and loves full sun. A very brightly colored flower, with either a red or purple center.
Cosmos
Usually an annual, but can be a tender perennial if allowed to reseed itself. Blooms all Summer up until the first frost and will grow well in full sun or light shade. Comes in a variety of colors.
Mexican Sunflower
This annual flower ads a splash of brilliant bright color to any garden. Usually red, yellow, or orange. Blooms Summer to frost and requires full sun.
Smoke Tree
This pollution tolerant tree is great for that “something different” you’ve been looking to add to your yard. Has small, insignificant flowers in June and July, but then comes out with the cotton-y panicles that give the tree its name. Plant in full sun or partial shade.
Sun Flower
Of course, with a name like “Sunflower” you know it has to be heat tolerant! It comes in many different varieties, both annual and perennial. Blooms Summer to frost and, of course, requires full sunlight.
