Cowpots: Biodegradable Pots for Seedlings

Gardener’s Supply has eco-friendly biodegradable Cowpots. Matt and Ben Freund, two Connecticut dairy farmers who were looking for an environmentally responsible way to dispose of cow manure, created the Cowpots.
The Cowpots are created from completely composted dry manure, mixed with natural fibers. What impressed me most is that Cowpots are 100% biodegradable. The pots will last for months in the greenhouse, or on your windowsill. Once the pots are buried in the ground they dissolve away within a couple weeks. While they’re dissolving they’re providing essential nutrients to the plants.
Since the roots aren’t disturbed during transplant the plants won’t suffer as much from transplant shock. These pots looked so interesting to me, I just had to share. I’m going to have to get a dozen to try them out.

Now that’s an idea I will have to try…just waiting for the promise of spring and I’ll give these cowpots a whirl!
Cowpots? I have to look into this! I don’t have a garden right now since I’m in an apartment, but my Dad is a farmer.
Cool post, thanks.
I saw the cowpots guy on “Dirty Jobs” and thought he was great. He reuses all his manure. He uses the methane to heat his home, the “liquid” to fertilize his crops and the composted manure to make cow pots. Very resourceful -though the process is rather nasty.
Cow pots really are a great way to plant your spring flowers and other seedlings! Great post.
there are so many shapes and forms of biodegradable pot availlable. also in Germany you can find this future products.
i found a website http://www.papierschnur.com/languages/biotop_eng.htm that shows plants and flower pots for nursery and privat usage.
I work in a nursery where we grow plants from seeds to be transplanted to the field, it would be great to have plant propagation trays made out of this material, and if their price is low we can give them away to clients. We collect back the plastic ones and reuse them until they break because they are not cheap enough to give away but at the end they become waste. if there is someone making this ideal tray plese let me know.
