You can grow tomatoes even if you don’t have much space. Many varieties of tomatoes will even grow in Containers and do very well. Cherry tomatoes, and other smaller varieties grow the best, but even some of the larger varieties will grow well if you use a deep enough container.
To grow most tomatoes in containers you will need a pot about the size of a 5 gallon bucket or larger, to give the tomatoes long roots room to grow.
Use a good rich organic potting soil, mixed with compost, and fertilize with an organic fertilizer like compost tea, or fish emulsion.
If you stake your tomatoes, or put them in a cage, you can even plant some other smaller plants in the tub with your tomato. Some good companion plants include basil, peppers, or cilantro. If you plan it out you can have everything you need to make salsa, or sauces growing in one container.
