We’ve had two hard freezes in my garden already this fall, so there’s not much left growing there. That doesn’t mean I don’t have some beautiful fall colors and textures going on.
The flowering kale and cabbage was very pretty all summer long, but after the freezes they’re stunning. I love the rich purple colors that the cold weather has brought out.
I have several grasses, with some gorgeous seed heads floating on top of my garden. Some of them are going to make their way into fall floral arrangements and centerpieces over the next few weeks, but I’ve got to leave …read more

I love the splash of fall color flowering cabbage and kale add to my garden. Flowering cabbage and kale are the ornamental version of the regular kale and cabbage you find in your vegetable garden. Their color is beautiful in the summer, but it becomes even more spectacular when the weather starts to cool.
Flowering cabbage and kale don’t really “flower” at all. They get their beautiful color from their leaves, not from blooms. You can find them with leaves that vary from shades of white, to pinks, or blues.

The Fireworks In My Garden

Happy Fourth of July! I wanted to share some of the fireworks in my garden with you today. OK, so you have to use your imagination a little, but don’t these plants look a little like fireworks? I think it’s my gardens way of celebrating the 4th of July.
The flowering cabbage looks like a firework that just exploded.
The flowering kale looks like those fireworks or sparklers that have lights going straight out.
The cinnamon basil looks like fireworks on full display, with the little lights trailing behind.
The lilies look like fireworks just starting to explode.
