Mother Earth's Garden

The Gerlach Family Christmas Tree

IMG 1661I’ve posted bits and pieces of our Christmas tree over the last few weeks. Gayla over at Supernanny Rules shared the McCord family Christmas tree, so I thought I’d share ours.

Here’s a photo of our Christmas tree. I love white Christmas lights on everything but our family tree. It has to have the multi-colored lights. I think it’s because we had the multi-colored light on our tree growing up. My mom’s tree only has white lights on it these days, so she doesn’t worry about being nostalgic, just me.

Our tree is a mixture of handmade, inherited, and handpicked ornaments. No two ornaments are alike.

I usually wrap grapevine around for garland, but we didn’t have much extra grapevine this year so I used some gold ribbon. I thought about adding some babys breath, but it’s almost Christmas and I haven’t done it yet. Maybe next year.

We have ornaments my husband and I made when we were children. We also have at least one ornament my son made from each year since he’s been born. I love making ornaments from the garden, and from mother nature.

It’s definitely not home and garden perfect, but I really love our Christmas tree. There are so many great memories there. I enjoy hanging the ornaments on every year and thinking about the history.

What does your Christmas tree look like this year?

That’s a very pretty tree; perfectly shaped. I like white lights best. I think it looks so peaceful — like a winter wonderland tree. But my son wanted colored this year and it is really all about him so… We got colored. I wasn’t thrilled but we got these very nice LED lights and they are really pretty actually. More twinkly than others I’ve seen and with clear true colors.

Your tree is beautiful. We have all white lights and lots of ornaments we have collected on travels & from our families! I believe your parents were friends of ours family in Louisville, friends in college (Morehead State Univ., KY) and when first married. Could you put me in touch with them?

Thank you very much, Mary Gayle
