3 Wedding Cost-Savers!

The global economic crisis is very much in the forefront of everyone methinks. If it’s not in yours, it’s definitely in mine! I am sure the recession is also in the minds of brides and grooms-to-be preparing for their weddings.

Here are 3 things that might help you save some of your precious moolah:

1. Get rid of the open bar. I think your guests will understand if you serve them a free round of drinks and the rest they can pay for. This will save your wedding alcohol budget quite a bit.

2. Instead of hiring an expensive limousine, why not borrow a friend’s car? You don’t need a limousine to get married surely? A limo is not something that you or your guests will remember your wedding by. It’s a want, not a need :-)

3. Research, research, research. With the economic downturn, I am sure there are heaps of discounts or budget packages that wedding vendors are offering to lure customers in. Take advantage of this and get the best deal that you can get.

Are there other things that you can share to help other couples out there?

  1. Joey says:

    I did ALL of those!

I also did other “tipid” things like hiring a sound system and using CDs instead of hiring live music.

  2. I’m all for cost cutting on weddings in ways such as doing as much as you can yourself, going off-season, going off-day (any day but Saturday), but I don’t think that I can really advise going with a cash bar.

Some of the fallout: ticked off guests. I kind of liken it to inviting friends and family over for dinner and then asking them to pay for the wine served with their dinner…you wouldn’t do that, would you?

If you can’t foot the bill for drinks for the reception, then I would really look for other ways to cost cut before I would consider a cash bar.

    • HI Diane….it’s quite common here in NZ to have cash bars. At parties, the hosts pay for 1 round of drinks then the guests pay for their drinks. I think it depends on what the culture is but given the tough economic environment, I am sure your friends/guests will understand if you can’t pay for all their drinks :-) I mean they attended your wedding not to get munted but to celebrate your most special day, right? :-)
