Looking for somewhere ‘historic’ to tie the knot? Why not check out Charleston and Savannah? Apparently, these cities lead the way for destination weddings in the US.

These two history filled cities dating back to pre-revolutionary America hosting wedding parties that wish to make a statement with an out of the ordinary wedding ceremony.Pic_2_1 Located on the Savannah River between Savannah and Tybee Island, Fort Jackson has hosted more than a few destination weddings over the years.

Abour Fort Jackson

Climbing the ramparts of strategically placed Fort Jackson, one is transported back in time to an era when choosing the high ground for defending a city and it’s population was a fundamental skill set in protecting coastal Savannah against invasion.Fortjackson_cannon No mystery here as to why Fort Jackson was erected to start with. The year was 1808 and America’s eroding relationship with Britain had worsened considerably in the years leading up to the War of 1812. Authorized by President Thomas Jefferson, Fort Jackson was erected in what the Native American Indians that Savannah’s founding father General James Oglethorpe encountered named according to their legend. The fort’s placeemnt on Thunderbolt was built on top of another structure that replaced a less substantial fort built in 1776 to protect the city from British attacks via the Savannah River of that era.

Just last Friday evening, we saw a beautiful hotel in Charleston on Distinctive Honeymoons.com It looks very romantic, so we put it on our “top ten” list for our honeymoon.

It didn’t register with me that we may have been so drawn to it because of the history, but it probably contributed.
