Getting Married: Changing Your Last Name

Before I got married, I have always toyed with the idea of continue using my maiden name, nope, not hyphenate it with my Husband’s as I have got quite a long maiden name (”De los Reyes”) so hyphenating it would just be ridiculous unless I married someone who had a 2-letter last name such as Go, So, Ty, etc etc.

However, I shelved that idea when I confirmed that I would have to migrate to New Zealand — having a Spanish last name like mine, I would forever have to spell it out to all the New Zealanders I meet!

What about you? What are your thoughts about your last name? Will you use your Husband’s name? hyphenate? Not use it at all?

I know of friends who have used their Husband’s last name, hyphenated, continued using their maiden name.

Indiebride has an article on this. Read more HERE.

I plan on taking my husband’s last name as much to honor his family as anything else. They treat me very well and have already accepted me as family. It just feels right.

    Hi Liz.

Me too, I am using my Husband’s last name. I like being called ‘Mrs Gooding’ :-) Like you, it just feels right.
