Google 'Heath Ledger Gemma Ward' and you will see that Heath had already got himself a girlfriend before he died who he had presented to his family and friends in Perth during his last Christmas there. All the other girls he was alledgedly dating were all red herrings that suited him perfectly. Michelle was probably already with Spike too as they had met when he cast her voice one of the characters in his film Where The Wild Things Are (but later, strangely, her voice was replaced by another actress) and later, 'coincidently' she starred in a film he was producing, Synecdoche New York, which began shooting way before Heath died. All you have to do is read between the lines and you will understand that both Heath AND Michelle had moved on with their private lives, and that's why they officially split in early September 2007.
