We’re all used to seeing the traditional tiered white round cakes served on weddings. I have to admit that when I saw this square cake, it definitely caught my attention. It’s not everyday do we see this type of tiered cake — for any occasion.
Apart from it being known as Nouveau-Art, they’re also called Mod wedding cakes.
“For today’s bride and groom, this nouveau-art cake. The colors are clear and strong, the shape clean and linear, the mood mod.” from The Wilton Book of Wedding Cakes, 1971
It’s such a pretty wedding cake! The combination of colors are lovely, a bit feminine but lovely nonetheless. It’s actually fascinating to find out that this was a photo featured on old clipping. I knew this particular cake design became popular a couple of years ago, what I didn’t know was that it was also popular back then. A square cake, tiered or not, is a square cake. Now we’re no stranger to that bit of information now, are we?
If you’re looking for a bit of change in how the wedding cake will look like in your own wedding, this cake idea ought to inspire it. Try it in bold colors, bigger dimensions, and fancy embellishments. Maybe you can even find the perfect wedding cake topper to go with it. I would, however, drop the candle though!

What a beautiful and unique wedding cake. I really like the colour and shape combination. It would probably look great in any colour because of the original style.
I really like this wedding cake, for its bright neon and fruity colors. The icing flowers make the perfect touch.
