Budget Weddings Idea: Potluck Reception

With these hard economic times upon us (and I heard on the news, there’s more of it to come in 2009!), couple are finding more and more ways to save on their weddings and still have the most memorable moment of their lives.
One that I heard is having a potluck for the wedding reception. Instead of your guests buying you a pressie, ask them to bring a plate/dish.
This will actually work out well for you. Your guest doesn’t have to spend much on a wedding present and you don’t have to pay  much for food at the wedding reception.

This tip doesn’t necessarily fall under ‘budget weddings’ but if you want bigger bang for your bridal shoes budget then why not consider having them dyed after the wedding?

Budget Weddings Idea: Emailing your wedding invitations

Hmm, I am not sure if emailing wedding invitations to save on postage costs is kosher but I suggest that you only do this if you are absolutely short of funds. This idea will definitely save you money!
I still think that personally delivering (if your guests live close by!) or mailing wedding invitations are the best and most socially accepted way of doing things but if you don’t care about wedding etiquette and going with the norm then go for it. Email your wedding invitations.
What about you? Will you consider emailing your wedding invitations instead of handing them out/mailing them?

Budget Weddings Idea: Rent Your Wedding Gown

If you’re only wearing your wedding gown once and want to save on your wedding costs, why not rent your wedding gown?
If you’re having a Renaissance wedding theme, don’t you think this wedding gown will be perfect for you:

Budget Weddings Idea: Bridal Party buys own dress

If you have a tight wedding budget or you’re celebrating a 25th or 50th wedding anniversary, you don’t have to splurge on the bridal party’s dresses or gowns that they will only wear once.
You also don’t have to have them wearing the same style of dresses. You can do what my Aunt and Uncle did when they renewed their wedding vows for their 50th wedding anniversary (pictured above). All the children and grandchildren (women and girls) bought their own gowns to the style that they like. The only condition made on this was that the gowns were of similar shade …read more
