I didn’t get an image of the whole display, only parts of it, but it would make a wonderful table centerpiece for your wedding reception.

I had a really great interview today with Crista Tharp of Tharp Events. She shared some of her wedding and event planning expertise with me, so I can share it with you here at Our One Heart. We talked about several things, but today I want to share Crista’s thoughts on the bridal bouquet and wedding flowers.

Crista said there are 4 basic types of wedding bouquets.

The round, posey, or nosegay bouquet is the most popular type of bridal bouquet right now. This bouquet is usually small, round and compact enough for the bride to hold in one hand if she needs to. One of the biggest pluses for this type of bouquet is that it doesn’t hide the brides gown.

The cascade is the most formal and traditional type of bridal bouquet. The cascade trails down the dress, and tends to be more ornate than other types of bouquet. Because it cascades it can hide part of the dress, and be a little more awkward to handle.

The hand tied bouquet tends to be the least formal. The stems on the flowers are cut even, and the top is open, like flowers in a vase. The stems can be either wrapped or unwrapped. The hand tied bouquet tends to be more casual.

The arm or presentation bouquet usually sits over one arm. This type of bouquet can be very ornate if there’s lots of flowers or beading.

Crista says the bride should consider what they want when they walk down the aisle, and how comfortable they will be holding their flowers before deciding what type of bouquet to carry down the aisle.

I’ll be back to share Crista’s money saving tips, wedding planning timeline guide, and her views on the latest trends in the next few days.

I’ve always wondered how brides choose their wedding flowers. With hundreds of flower options to choose from and not to mention all the possible arrangements available, I think you’d be surprised yourself that one can settle on one thing to use for her wedding.

Image: Flickr - ambernussbaum

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ambernussbaum/ / CC BY-NC-ND 2.0

Following the usual way that brides narrow down their choices and how I made mine, of course, I’ll try to list down the main things considered as one makes her decision:

Favorite flowers

Color selection

Wedding dress design

Available flower arrangements

Florist style

Ornaments

These are listed in random. It will depend on how one will find each as important.

The reasons remain simple. A bride will always want to use her favorite flowers especially if we’re talking about the bride’s bouquet. She’ll be opting for to get them in the color theme of her wedding or perhaps make the color of the flowers as the wedding color theme. Arrangement and florist style will have to match or complement the wedding dress and decide on the ornaments soon after that, i.e. natural ornaments in the form of leaves and such or precious (or semi) stones or ribbons, etc.

Take for example how this lady decided on her wedding flowers:

Mine will be bigger but will combine these flowers: hyacinth, gloriosa lilies, hypericum berries, ranunculus, open tulips, anemones. All the guys will have really simple boutonnières with chartreuse hypericum berries and greenery, except for Jimmy, who will have red hypericum berries and a few hyacinth blooms to match my flowers.

If you’ve got your own special way of choosing your wedding flowers, let us know!

One of the key details in a wedding is the bride’s bouquet. Most, if not all, brides pay extra attention to the set of flowers they’ll be holding as they walk down the aisle. It has to be special. It has to match the chosen theme but should have an added kick in elements.

One of the key details in a wedding is the bride’s bouquet. Most, if not all, brides pay extra attention to the set of flowers they’ll be holding as they walk down the aisle. It has to be special. It has to match the chosen theme but should have an added kick in elements. In short, it should be the best ever bouquet that a woman should carry in her wedding and, yes, for the rest of her life — a bouquet that will best reflect her person, her femininity, her.

So the idea that your florist can actually whip something up and out of the ordinary, probably from her best selection of flowers will simply be not enough. But if you say that there’s customization involved then you’re attention will be caught for certain.

Planning the bride’s bouquet can be a bit nit-picky about the whole thing but there’s no harm in undertaking a task that will allow more personal touches on your special day. Knowing that you’re holding something that you conceptualized, flowers arranged to suit your personality, will heighten the experience and make memories more vibrant and special.

In my Sunday magazine I read about Barry Chandler who wanted to show his love for his wife on their 10th anniversary. Now most men may opt for the flowers or the chocolates, but not Barry. He organised the same wedding day that they had enjoyed 10 years earlier. He booked the same church to renew their vows, the same vicar, organist, reception, flowers, best men etc
He is quoted as saying “I really wanted to show Samantha how much I loved her”
