My friend actually thinks that New York is one of the most romantic cities in the world. It’s on her list next to Paris and Rome. And Central Park in New York is one of her must-see places in the world. When I asked her what she thought of the idea of her guy popping the question on Bow Bridge, she went ballistic and claimed that she wouldn’t mind it one bit!

That’s one of the many reactions I’ve observed from people when it comes to wedding proposals and the Bow Bridge. It’s that well-loved.

It must be that the idea of including certain elements of nature in a momentous event makes the act of offering the promise of a lifelong commitment and love more meaningful. The event makes the proposal “one with the universe” and somewhat a combination of a private personal exchange and a public announcement.

Bow Bridge is one of the most handsomely designed cast iron bridges in the world. It spans sixty feet across the Lake, linking the cultivated and flowering landscape of Cherry Hill with the rustic and sprawling woods of the Ramble. Its proportions and sinuous length inspired one visitor to remark that the bridge looked “poured” over the Lake.

Bow Bridge owes its existence to Commissioner Dillon’s desire for a suspension bridge; the designers compromised with a low-lying bridge. Named for its resemblance to an archer’s bow, it immediately became one of Central Park’s most cherished bridges. It continues to be the romantic setting for wedding proposals, classic film shoots, and the choice of many photographers who want to capture one of the signature design features of Central Park. One of the somewhat unique finds is this wedding proposal — with the acceptance, nonetheless — which utilized a popular table game, Scrabble. It reminds me of this one scene in the movie The Wedding Planner wherein Jennifer Lopez used Scrabble tiles to spell out the word YES in response to Justin Chamber’s character Mossimo’s wedding proposal. I think they’re onto something.

Anyway, like how Bjorn’s computer skills lead to a Dashboard Widget wedding proposal, a mutual love for the game paved a way for the couple to share in a Scrabble wedding proposal experience. Each has its own attractive factors which called out to personalized proposals making the memory unique to the couple and romantic in a way that only spontaneity can bring.

Before I go, I want to make sure that you’d take the time to take a snap or two after or better if the guy includes the documenting bit into the overall plan.

I have to say that this is one of the most geekiest wedding proposals I’ve ever come across. What started out as a random search on wedding proposals turned into this delightful journey on how one guy charmed his way into getting his girlfriend to agree that marrying him is a good thing — in his own special way.

Two engagement rings in the grounds by the English Bay. I believe that you know that they’re sculptures by now. Made by Dennis Oppenheim out of glass, steel and aluminum. I’m curious about what inspired him to do it and why put it in that particular location.

Romantic guess would be that there’s a love story behind it. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the location is now a popular place for couples to get engaged. I wonder just how many engagements has this sculpture witnessed?

Though I still find it strange that two giant engagement rings exist but I also see it as a good thing, too. There are people who still believe in romance and see the importance of celebrating marriage.

Adam Hirsch (COO of Mashable) at the Social Good Conference was able to pull off a surprise marriage proposal during the event to his girlfriend, Managing Editor Sharon Feder.

According to Mashable, Sharon said yes. Awww!

I suppose if you are one of the top honchos hosting the event, if won’t be difficult to pull off such a surprise. What I do admire though is the ability of the organizers and the crew at Mashable to keep it a secret considering the “surprisee” is also working at their company.

I also admire guys (and gals) who are brave enough to do this. What if he/she says no? Best thing is to make sure beforehand that your partner is committed enough to you to say yes when the time comes to pop the question. It would really suck if he/she said no. It’d also be humiliating if you proposed in a public event like what Adam did!

Unfortunately, Hubby said no and I wasn’t really that keen to be worrying about what I looked like for the TV cameras so I suppose I’m glad that we didn’t get TV coverage

Anyhoo, the point of this is really to give the guys (and the gals!) an idea out there on what you can do to make your wedding proposal…well, special. Why not talk to your local TV station and ask if you can propose to your girlfriend (or boyfriend) at one of their shows. Doing this takes a lot of guts though…what if your partner says no to your proposal….VERY embarrassing!

However if you’re sure that she (or he!) will say yes then go for it, I say! Would be a perfect video clip to show on your wedding day

When he pulled out the ring and asked to marry her, her expression was beyond wild. It was soooo heartwarming to watch videos of wedding proposals like this.

Perhaps you can do something like this for the one you love. I wish Hubby and I captured on video his own proposal to me. It would be nice to watch it over and over again : -)

Stephanie Sullivan of W3Conversions e-mailed Friday to report that she and her fiancee, Greg Rewis, got engaged March 2 via Twitter. The couple live in different cities and travel constantly, so the tweet engagement made sense for them.

“I thought it was the most romantic proposal ever!” writes Sullivan. “And he surprised me with the ring when we met on my layover in PHX (on our way to SXSW to speak).”

Here’s the current contender for first Twitter proposal:

The proposal: “@stefsull – ok. for the rest of the twitter-universe (and this is a first, folks) – WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

Sullivan’s reply: “@garazi – OMG – Ummmmm… I guess in front of the whole twitter-verse I’ll say — I’d be happy to spend the rest of my geek life with you.”

Rewis’ justification for using Twitter rather than getting down on bended knee or using another, more modern, proposal ritual: “Screw Times Square! THIS, my friends, is the way to propose to a beautiful, wonderful woman!”

This is such a sweet wedding proposal! Such a creative and obviously well-planned wedding proposal! Hmm, I wish my Husband did something as creative as this one when he popped the big question to me all those years ago!

It took me a few months, but I finally came up with a decent, original idea to propose to Cori. Using a box, wood, some cloth, some rope, a diamond ring, and a large load of sheer manpower, I made a move to seal the deal. ENJOY.

The musical score is cute too. They used the ‘another one bites the dust’ song! haha Lots of hugs and tears. I, too, was teary-eyed! I so love it!
