The first winter cake topper idea is from PurpleMadison’s Etsy shop, and it features a bride and a groom snowman. I love the ice block alter behind them, and all the detail in their little outfits, from the grooms top hat, to their tiny noses and buttons. They’re way too cute!

For a winter wedding I love these edible fondant snowflake cupcake toppers from TwoSweetCakes, you could use them with the snowman cake topper, or just by themselves on cupcakes.

I think it would be really cute to do a small cake at the top with the snowman bride and groom cake topper, then cascade cupcakes with the edible fondant snowflakes underneath.

I love the scroll work on this white with black cake, and the black bow gives it an elegant touch, and can tie it in with your bridesmaids dresses if you use the right fabric.

Here’s another black and white cake with lots of detail. This cake would be beautiful for a fall wedding with the leaves.

This black and white layered cake is very elegant. The black and white ribbons make it even more formal. Even though it’s very monochromatic you could easily use this cake for a spring wedding with the flowers. Maybe throw in some bright accent colors in your wedding planning to brighten things up.

But let’s say you’ve got this wonderful opportunity to sneak in a sweet or two? Or having a couple of cupcakes reserved exclusively to the bride and groom?

Aren’t these little things adorable? I’m finding more and more reasons to love wedding cupcakes! Another idea would be to have these things act as the piece of cake — in this case, pieces are already properly “labeled” — that the bride and groom will be feeding each other during the program at the wedding reception.

I like how this set of cupcakes is especially designed for weddings and weddings alone. I hope this helps inspire you!

I found out that this is a tradition typically associated with the American South¹ and is usually flavored fruitcake.

If wedding cakes are usually decorated white, light and more feminine, the groom’s cake takes on a more fun, elaborate and unconventional cake designs.

The groom’s cake seen above is one of the better examples of how one can look like. It takes on the funny wedding cake topper showing off a bride dragging a fireman to the altar.

Other designs can be as customized as the couple would prefer. It can be in a shape of a bongo, football or what ever shape that best suits the personality of the groom. It doesn’t even have to be fruitcake; can be in chocolate or cheesecake.

The groom’s cake is often served at a separate table from the wedding cake at a wedding reception, though it may be served as a dessert for a rehearsal dinner.²

And here’s a bit of trivia: legend has it that if a single lady sleeps with a slice of groom’s cake under her pillow will supposedly dream of the man she will marry.³ Now, that’s something interesting.

Apart from it being known as Nouveau-Art, they’re also called Mod wedding cakes.

It’s such a pretty wedding cake! The combination of colors are lovely, a bit feminine but lovely nonetheless. It’s actually fascinating to find out that this was a photo featured on old clipping. I knew this particular cake design became popular a couple of years ago, what I didn’t know was that it was also popular back then. A square cake, tiered or not, is a square cake. Now we’re no stranger to that bit of information now, are we?

If you’re looking for a bit of change in how the wedding cake will look like in your own wedding, this cake idea ought to inspire it. Try it in bold colors, bigger dimensions, and fancy embellishments. Maybe you can even find the perfect wedding cake topper to go with it. I would, however, drop the candle though!

I like looking at certain wedding details, which some brides overlook. Wedding cake toppers might fall under the “least important” category and one would often settle for whatever comes with the wedding cake or perhaps entirely leave it off. I have to admit that I’ve attended weddings wherein there were no wedding cake toppers to be found. It’s a missed opportunity, in my honest opinion.

Take this rubber ducky wedding topper, for instance. It depicts a youthful side of the couple being wed. Add to it that they’ve got this easy humor which the wedding guests can easily see once they spot the cake topper.

Granted that it’s a small detail which may fail to reach their attention, we have to take into account the possibility that they might notice it. Memories of your wedding shared with these guests will be of this understanding of who you are. Remember, even the little things matter in some cases.

Make this a spring board for wedding ideas, towards adding a personal touch on an important and highly personal occasion.

Isn’t it adorable? Its craftsmanship may not be stellar compared to the more professional, often elegant, looking wedding cakes but whoever said that we should always have the same thing? There’s no individuality in that. This wedding cake has its own allure. From its seemingly simple appearance and lack of coherence with the occasion, some may not be impressed. However, if you hear the story behind the creation or the possible reaction it can illicit from wedding guests, you’ll find that this is one wedding detail which can contribute in making your wedding stand out and be memorable.

In brief, the wedding cake topper depicts the bride and groom with their parents (and then some) seated at the Top Table in caricature profiles made into miniatures. That, I believe, is truly personal.
