But not to trivialize an important symbol of matrimony, the wedding bands are indeed important. Beautiful, romantic and, yes, can be expensive. But wouldn’t you want the freedom to choose the perfect wedding ring that you will wear for as long as you both shall be married live? Yes, it’s the symbol of commitment, a tangible source of reminder that you are bound to each other, that you belong with one another for the rest of your life every single day. I’m sure a lot of you can add on to what wedding rings mean to you as a person and as a couple so feel free to share them.

Meanwhile, I asked an unmarried friend to share her engagement and wedding ring preference and top of mind answer was a classic choice from Tiffany’s.

The century-old design, The Tiffany Setting, to be exact. She loves it due to its timeless quality, elegance and clean lines; for its fancy, intricate and sophisticated design. She thinks that this is the perfect ring to match her personality and personal style. I do think that its a fabulous choice. If some lucky guy snags her, I hope he’s clever enough to find out that this is the exact sort of ring that will make her his future wife. I’ll be keeping tabs on this friend to see if she ends up with the very engagement ring she wishes for, the wedding ring too!

This Friday’s Q&A is on wedding band inscription.

The Husband and I have our wedding bands inscribed with each other’s names and the date of our wedding. A friend of mine suggested that we should have our bands inscribed with “Love You Untold” — this was (and is still is) the way my Husband used to sign off on his emails and cards he’s sent me while we did the LDR (Long Distance Relationship) thing all those years ago.

This leads me to this week’s question by Steve on Themed Wedding: Lord Of The Rings:

My wife & I are avid fans of LOTR. We LOVE the wedding. We also have a question. We were thinking of renewing our vows in a similar manner. We recognized this:
One Ring to Show Our Love
One Ring to Bind Us
One Ring to Seal our Love
And Forever to Entwine Us.
It is a translation of a High Elvish inscription on One Ring wedding bands we once saw in a LOTR jewelry order catalog. We have been trying to find these, but cannot seem to find them anywhere. Were these used in this wedding? If so, does anyone know where we can locate them? Or maybe just have a copy of the High Elvish script for this so we can have it engraved on our current wedding bands? If you do, please e-mail me with them! Thank you!

Michael O’Connor of MSN has some great tips for choosing and buying the right wedding band. When my fiance (now Husband) and I were planning and preparing for our wedding, we decided on 2 to 3 things that we’d like to splurge on. Things that we would have to mark the special day in our lives.

One of these things were our wedding bands. Apart from the photos and the videos and your memories of your wedding day, your wedding bands are living reminders of your commitment to each other. Therefore, they deserve thoughtful consideration.

Michael’s 6 tips are:

Search at least six months prior to the wedding

Don’t skimp on the wedding band budget

Have a frank discussion with each other
Today, wedding bands don’t necessarily need to match each other exactly, but they should be complementary and say something about the fact that the two people wearing them are “together.” Talk about the styles you like and if you want bands that are an exact match, or simply work beautifully together.

Pick a design that works with your style and your hand

Try returning to your engagement ring jeweler
Chances are that the jeweler who sold you the engagement ring that you’re happy with will have wedding bands that work perfectly with that engagement ring and carry complementary rings for him to choose among. If you were happy with the service and selection he showed you when shopping for the engagement ring, most likely you’ll be happy with his selection of wedding bands and the service and guidance he will provide you when shopping.

Purchase a wedding band that is made of the same material as your engagement ring
Different metals wear at different rates. If you are wearing your wedding band on the same finger as your engagement ring, the two rings will inevitably constantly be rubbing up against each other. If one ring metal is harder, stronger or more dense in nature, than the other, predominant metal will win, and wear away at the other.
