TIP: If you make a mistake in reciting your wedding vows, laugh it off. Don’t get stressed about it. Remember, your wedding only happens once so enjoy it with all its boo-boo’s and imperfections!

If you don’t feel too comfortable about writing your own, you can use your Minister’s or Church’s regular wedding vows:

You have changed since then. I have changed, and the world around us has changed most of all. But one thing has not changed. Fortunately for Hubby, I may want to get married again but I want to get married to the same person! Ha!

Because the Hubby swore he won’t get married again, I have to content myself with dreaming. Perhaps for our 10th year, I can convince him to do a Renewal of Wedding Vows ceremony with me…and of course a big partttyyyyyy!

To those planning a renewal of vows, these are the things you need to think about:

A couple can end their vows with a poem, for example, this verse by James Weldon Johnson:

Who hosts?

Many couples host their own renewals, and some have their children do the honors. Here’s a trend we really like: The couple’s closest friends, perhaps the original Maid of Honor and Best Man, host the event. And don’t feel like you have to find a secular event hall or outdoor space to hold the ceremony — many traditional halls of worship make wonderful, meaningful venues. Since a vow renewal is not a legally binding ceremony, you can have whomever you want to officiate — a clergyperson, a close friend, a relative, or even your children.

Burke’s wedding vows on Grey’s Anatomy Season 3 finale was the sweetest one I have heard in a long time!

Here’s the transcript of Burke’s wedding vows:

Cristina, I could promise to hold you and to cherish you. I could promise to be there in sickness and in health. I could say til death do us part, but I wont.

Those vows are for optimistic couples, the ones full of hope, and I don’t stand here on my wedding day optimistic or full of hope. I am not optimistic, I am not hopeful.
