World’s First Zero Gravity Wedding

If you had GBP10,000? Would you spend it to get married in weightlessness? Not sure if I would. Won’t it be very uncomfortable? What about my gown? Won’t it go upside down? Sorry I’m thinking about the practicalities of getting married in total weightlessness when I should be congratulating the first couple who got married in a ‘weightless’ environment!

brautpaar

Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan floated around as they became the first couple to tie the knot while weightless. They were married on a special flight that simulates the zero gravity experienced by astronauts on space walks. The couple paid more than £10,000 to have their wedding in a converted Boeing 727 jet that undertakes roller coaster-style dives. As the jet plummets, passengers inside the padded cabin experience weightlessness.

Mr Fulmore, 31, and Ms Finnegan, 30, from New York, exchanged rings made from precious metal fragments of a meteorite that crashed to Earth in Namibia 30,000 years ago.

Their flight took off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The zero gravity flight, which lasts 90 minutes, made 16 roller coaster-type dives, known as parabolic arcs, to create the weightlessness inside the cabin.

Mr Fulmore said: “It was outstanding, and everything we were hoping for.”

His wife wore a designer wedding dress with trousers to protect her modesty during weightlessness.

Swine Flu does not affect Chicago Wedding

What if both you and your spouse-to-be get diagnosed with swine flu a couple of days before your wedding? What would you do? Would you push through with it knowing that swine flu is highly contagious and that you may contaminate your guests or would you postpone the wedding? Not sure I like what this couple in Chicago did. They were diagnosed with a highly contagious virus and still they exposed their guests to it!

A Chicago couple diagnosed with swine flu only 48 hours before their wedding said they went through with their plans — in latex gloves and surgical masks.

Jeremy Fierstien and Ilana Jackson, both 26, said they were concerned about being diagnosed with H1N1, better known as swine flu, but they were determined to go forward with the ceremony at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park, Ill., the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
“The doctor said: ‘It’s not going to be the wedding you wanted. You tested positive for swine flu. Give me a call if you have any questions,’” Fierstien said after the wedding, which featured both bride and groom in latex gloves and surgical masks to protect their guests.

Couple celebrates 70th Wedding Anniversary

A couple just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary! How cool is that? My Husband and I got married a bit late in life so I’m not sure we’d be around to celebrate our 40th let alone our 70th!

In 1925 when she was 5, Beth Ellison Cole moved with her family from Missouri to a place in Miami ”where the sidewalks were pink,” her parents had promised her.

But life wasn’t so rosy once they got to then-booming Miami. They lived in a tent for six months before their new house was built. Soon after, the family endured — and survived — the 1926 hurricane that yanked the roof off the new home. The family rebuilt only to lose everything again during the 1929 financial bust.

For Cole, the lesson was clear: Material things don’t last forever. But after 70 years of marriage to Bates Cole, she has learned something else: Love and faith will get you through most of life’s difficulties.

The couple celebrated Saturday seven decades of marriage at The Resort and Club at Little Harbor on the west coast of Florida. Family and friends from California, North Carolina, North Florida and Maryland joined them.

If your parents, grandparents or in-laws are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, you can gift them with something platinum. Platinum is the symbol for the 70th wedding anniversary.

What NOT to do at Beach Weddings

Are you planning to have a beach wedding? That’s well and good but I think for your and your spouse-to-be’s safety, perhaps, it is best not to do anything adventurous during or after the wedding reception or you might end up in hospital!

A bride and groom from Cornwall who took a break from their reception to go surfing had to be rescued after becoming caught in strong currents.

The couple were enjoying their wedding reception at a beach bar at Porthtowan on Thursday evening when the groom decided to go for a surf.

His wife joined him for a dip and the pair got caught in a rip current.

Off-duty lifeguards raced to the sea and rescued the bride, who ended up on some rocks, before saving her husband.

RNLI lifeguards John Craze and Ben Salter had finished their patrols for the day and were packing up their equipment when they were alerted to the plight of the newly-weds.

McFadden & Goodrem postpone wedding

Hmmm, I don’t think it will go down well with me if my wedding gets postponed because of work commitments! Surely, you decide on a date carefully to ensure that you don’t book any work around it? I suppose because I am not a Hollywood celebrity, I will not understand the commitments that they have. I just think it’s a bad omen to postpone one’s wedding. It’s like your testing fate or something!

Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem have announced that they are postponing their wedding due to increased work commitments.

Digitalspy reports that the couple originally planned to tie the knot at Christmas after becoming engaged in November 2007.

However, McFadden has now told The Sunday Telegraph: “We were sitting down to try to organise the wedding and we were thinking: ‘We’re never going to get this wedding organised by Christmas’.

Yes, they’re busy but surely they can afford to hire full-time wedding planners to do all the hard work around their wedding and all they had to do is to sign-off on options or concepts presented to them?

OR….maybe they are just getting cold feet? What do you think?

Miss California says no to Gay Marriages

It is quite sad that a single person’s answer to a question in a beauty pageant can cause such furor right now. It was a question asked people! It was not as if she was running for President and part of her campaign promises was to ban gay marriages forever.

Rather than take part in the three ring circus that has been caused by Miss Califonia’s answer to Perez Hilton’s question regarding gay marriages, I prefer to open your eyes to countries that do allow gay marriages or same sex civil unions.

1. New Zealand - I am pleased to be living in a country that respect people’s beliefs. New Zealand allows same sex unions.

2. Netherlands - Netherlands is the first country to allow same sex marriages. This was passed into law in 2001.

3. Denmark - Denmark is the first country to allow same sex civil unions. This was passed into law in 1989.

The complete list of countries and jurisdictions that allow same sex civil unions are in the Wikipedia list.

Accidents at Weddings

Isn’t it sad when tragedy strikes on what is meant to be a happy occasion, ie the wedding?

wedding-tragedy

It seems there is no moratorium on feuds even on occasions like a wedding. Tsk-tsk

Masked gunmen stormed a wedding party in Turkey’s Kurdish region hurling grenades and firing machine guns in an attack which left 44 people dead — half of them women and children, authorities said Tuesday.

Eight people have been arrested over what Interior Minister Besir Atalay said was a blood feud between two families.

Four masked men entered the village square in Bilge just after a Muslim preacher had completed the wedding ceremony late on Monday, and started throwing hand grenades, witnesses told AFP.

9 year old girl - Youngest Bride Ever

This is sooooo sad. While we may think it a bit weird to marry off a 9 year old girl, can you really say no if it’s her ‘last’ request before she passes away?

SOUTHLAKE — From the flowers to the banquet hall, donations poured in to give a North Texas bride the wedding of her dreams.

At Paradise Cove, which is on the shore of Lake Grapevine, family and friends came to celebrate the wedding of nine-year-old Jayla Cooper. The ceremony was put together in less than one week.

“We didn’t expect to do this when she was nine years old, but she has taught us all how to love each other and to be strong,” said Lisa Cooper, Jayla’s mother.
