Technology has become increasingly desirable to people seeking help with — well, anything. It’s easy, convenient and you don’t have to deal with those pesky fellow human beings we all can’t stand. Now, there’s a virtual therapist who can theoretically … More
Federally mandated labeling laws-required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration—are in place so that we shoppers don’t accidentally scorch our skin. The sunscreens will now have to be clear: do they protect skin cancer? Do they protect against sunburn? Are they water-resistant? More

I’m getting a little tired of the “Strong is the New Skinny” meme (see the Facebook group, and this article), or at least the way it’s coming across. Focusing on strength over skinniness is an improvement of sorts, but one inevitably illustrated by photos of super-strong women who are still skinny, almost always white, and almost always with long, straight ponytails (bonus: sometimes with breast implants, which are not very helpful in weightlifting). Right now, I’m still receiving emails regarding the confessional piece I wrote yesterday about why I do not use birth control. Most of the emails are thoughtful and understanding. Many of them share their perspectives on birth control and successful methods, pregnancy and regrets about unwanted pregnancies. More

It’s nearly June, which means summer fruits are staggering into season. Expect cherries, blueberries, peaches and watermelon to join apricots and strawberries at the farmer’s market. Pies are certainly in order (or perhaps tortes?), but don’t let traditional fruit avenues limit you. Berries and melons make great additions to salads, pizza—even tacos. Make your avocado jealous with one of these six fruit taco recipes. More
The other day, one of my friends tweeted that she had just completed her monthly breast self-exam. Despite my ardent interest in my own health (Yes, I am the woman who makes her own kombucha, uses a menstrual cup and goes to the gynecologist armed with charts of my most recent cycles), I’ve never actually done a breast self-exam, and I’m not exactly sure why it’s not a priority for me. Interested, I decided to ask my fellow Blisstree writers if they do breast self-checks. Here’s our conversation: More

A little while ago, Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Clayface Mike Jeffries made some really awful comments about why his fratty Americana mall clothes don’t come in larger sizes. A recent article (focusing on the brand’s desire for thin, popular customers) brought the comments back around and a new outcry surged on the internet, especially from the fat acceptance community. One blogger, Jes at The Militant Baker, decided to write an open letter to Jeffries. Then, even better, she did a photoshoot to accompany that letter, imagining ‘fat Abercrombie ads’ that reflect positive body image. More
