5 Summer Blockbuster Movies For Kids

I love the summer blockbuster season. My son and I enjoy checking out all the great movies all summer long. I love seeing movies on opening weekend. One of the big benefits of setting my own work schedule is checking out big movies in a cool movie theater in the middle of a hot summer afternoon. The crowds aren’t as heavy at 1 or 2 pm on a Friday as they are on the weekends.

This summer’s blockbuster movie list for kids looks very promising. Here are 5 movies my son and I plan on checking out this summer. A couple of these movies will probably be rated PG-13 and not for the younger crowd, but I have to include some movies for the tween and teen crowd (use your own personal discretion).

My son’s almost outgrowing some of the animated movies. He keeps promising to go with me even when he gets older, we’ll see!

There are more fun summer movies coming out for families than these 5, these are just the 5 at the top of our list. If your family has a favorite movie in theatres this summer, please feel free to share it in the comment section.

The Movies are listed in the order of their premiere dates.

  1. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, rated PG, premieres today, May 22nd from 20th Century Fox.
  2. Disney’s UP 3-D, rated PG, premieres May 29th.
  3. Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, from Dreamworks/ Paramount, premieres, June 21st
  4. Ice Age Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, from 20th Century Fox, premiering July 1st
  5. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, premiering July 15th

We hope to go see Night at The Museum this weekend, but we’ll see how the weekend goes!

  1. We took a 6-y-o, two 13-y-o’s and an 18-y-o to Night at the Museum last night. Everyone laughed out loud and enjoyed the action. It’s just the right amount of silly. Transformers looks more violent and muddled than the first one. We’ll wait for the DVD. UP, Ice Age and Harry Potter are eagerly anticipated summer theater treats. The previews before Night at the Museum showed some of the cheesiest upcoming movies I have ever seen. Those should skip the theaters and go straight to television.
