Barbie vs. Bratz – The Battle is Over (or is it?)

In the eyes of the legal system, Barbie wins the Barbie vs. Bratz battle.
Remember the case of who actually owns Bratz? Mattel sued MGA Entertainment who markets Bratz claiming that Bratz dolls were created by Carter Bryant while he still worked at Mattel and was on Mattel’s payroll. Well, the jury decided that early Bratz designs and the brand name of Bratz was created while Carter Bryant was employed by Mattel.
What does that mean for Bratz and Barbie? No one knows yet, but even though the courtroom battle is over, it seems there is still a lot to sort out between these two companies and these two brands. Some estimates say Mattel is owed $1.6 billion in lost profits. And where does Bratz go from here? We’ll have to wait and see.

How did the Bratz ever become so popular in the first place? Their line of babys and “Lil’ Angelz” just creeps me out. Yet again I’m not the target audience, but if my daughter ever asks for them I’d rather push her towards Barbie.
Back to the article though, anything you create while working for a company usually becomes the intellectual property of your employer. That’s just the way things go and as cutthroat as the toy business (not that I would know), IP is even more closely guarded.

I think Barbie is jeolous because Bratz has a better look and fashion sense. More importantly, Mattell’s sales are dropping. Barbie is stuck in the world of pink, fluffy and fantasy. However, Bratz is doing a total reality check. And, don’t you think that Barbie modified it’s My Scence Dolls to look just like the Bratz? Isn’t this a total sign of envy? I’m on Bratz side with this! At seven years old, even, I can see who should win this battle.
PS. Isn’t everthing Barbie makes pretty much recycled anyway?
I think this whole thing is so stupid. Its all about the money, who’s making it and who’s losing it. In this case it was Mattel who was losing it and MGA who was making it. Mattel was hard pressed to down this family owned company for beating its Barbie doll sales and winning Toy of the year with its BRATZ dolls. I believe there is room in the market place for both dolls and it is obvious that there are people who will buy them. I have 2 young girls of my own that love the BRATZ dolls as well as the Barbie dolls and I purchase both for them. I have seen them play with them and they use the Barbie doll as the mother of the BRATZ dolls who happen to be teen age dolls and Barbie who clearly is an adult with her many careers and such. Like I said before there is room for all. One other thing if the lawsuit that Mattel brought against MGA in 2004 has anyone thinking. Why did Mattel wait 4 long years to bring this lawsuit? What were they waiting for? The BRATZ dolls debuted in 2000 or 2001 what was the wait? Sounds like sour grapes to me!
I think that Bratz will win because they look better, have better movies and thay plain and simply roQ! I mean duh, i luv barbie nd all but, see ya lata because bratz will rule!
