I was really excited to find the Better Homes and Gardens: New Junior Cook Book while walking around Barnes and Noble the other day. I like glancing through cookbooks for fun and inspiration, and I’m always interested to see what they feature in the ones that are designed for kids. As I’ve said before, I think cookbooks should have photos of the goal for the appearance of the finished product. I know it helps me when I’m cooking.
So, it was exciting to see that this book was definitely designed for kids in all of the cartoon-type illustrations for equipment and just for fun, but there are also actual photos of each item. Other features include a safety page, a page on how to measure, glossary (called “Know the Lingo”), how to set the table, how to read nutritional information, table manners, how to plan a meal, and more. And it was a nice bonus that it happened to be 20% off. ![]()
I can’t wait to get into this book with the kids! What are your favorite meals to cook with your kids?

I’ve reviewed a ton of cookbooks, but since I don’t have kids have not worked with cookbooks for kids. Still, I have fond memories of growing up with a Disney cookbook one of my aunts gave me–I made recipes such as pancakes and English muffin pizzas out of that from a very young age right on up through adulthood! That was a very well-used cookbook that must have served me beautifully for a good 20 years, and probably had a good hand in my current cookbook obsession. Thank you for reminding me of it!
I have a kid’s cookbook for me
and it’s great. I hate to cook and having everything explained in simple details makes it that much easier. Mine has burn marks on the cover. I left it sitting on one of the burners and then turned it on by accident. Everyone who sees the book just assumes that one of the kids did it lol… and if they don’t ask, I don’t tell.
I am so glad that you posted about this cookbook for kids. I have been hunting for one. I can’t wait to go out and get one.
When I was young my Grandmother had given me a cookbook for kids and I loved that book. Every time I opened that book I couldn’t help but think about cooking with Grandma!! All children should have a cook book.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

I really like this cookbook. When my cousins and I decided to make ” a restaurant ” , this was the cookbook that we used to figure out the recipes we would put on our menu.
I’ve never heard of this cookbook. I think I might look into getting it. My kids LOVE to cook.
