Just a few short months after the abrupt death of Steve Irwin, aka The Crocodile Hunter, there is news of the release of a new action figure featuring his image and recorded trademark sayings.
Do you think it’s too quick? I mean, they obviously had this in the works for a long time if they have Irwin’s voice recorded as part of the toy. Here is what the company has to say about the decision to release the toys. From washingtonpost.com:
K&M was ready to stop the international launch after Irwin died Sept. 4 from a poisonous stingray barb piercing his chest, but Terri Irwin wanted to go ahead, said G.B. Pillai, K&M president.
“We want people to know what he stood for and never forget him,” Pillai said.
What do you think? Would it be hard for you to have a doll out there with your loved one’s voice on it? Or would it be endearing and an honor to think of a generation of kids knowing his voice and hearing his message (via the toy and the myriad of his videos)?

It does seem a little early to me. Even if they had it in the works already it might have been a good idea to hold off putting it on the shelve for at least a few more months.
Lisa: Thanks for commenting.
I’m not sure how I feel on it now, just hope that they consulted with the family on it, first.
