Not to be alarmist or anything but since I personally know Jo whose daughter lost a toe while wearing crocs, I have a heightened interest in the whole situation. Today, I found this ABC Good Morning America article:
In some online chat rooms and blogs, however, parents are sharing stories about kids having accidents while wearing the shoes.
Some people have reported that kids wearing Crocs have had their feet sucked into the side of escalators.
Some businesses have even posted warning signs near their escalators saying if you’re wearing Crocs, be careful.
When my son was younger, I did not put shoes on him that weren’t sturdily built with his toes covered. And I never let him wear flip flops or sandals without a strap across the heel holding his feet in. Now that he’s four, I allow him to wear flip flop type sandals or slippers only in our own garden or housing complex. When we go out on the town, he still wears sneakers or well-made sandals.
Apparently, some of the injured children ran their feet along the wall of the escalator as the steps traveled up. The friction created heat that melted the Crocs and caused it to somehow get caught in the escalator. For more on elevator and escalator safety, visit A Safe Ride.
In what situations do you allow your children to wear Crocs or flip flops?

Oh, wow, how scary!!
I’m not trying to make light of the situation, but here’s one more reason to take the stairs in my book.
Mama Duck: I would never have expected it myself!
Bald Man: Sometimes you have no choice. I haven’t seen a staircase in any subway station here in London. o_O
