Does anyone still play Tetherball?

So, a friend spent a portion of this weekend participating in a blogathon to raise money for charity. At one point, she and another blogathoner (yes, I’m making up words, I think), started chatting about a game called Swingball. From what I gathered, it seemed similar to what I grew up with as Tetherball.

I remember Tetherball poles at one or two of the grade schools I attended, but I never remember it being a huge craze or anything. Certainly nothing like four-square. Baldman, however, remembered playing a few games in grade school. He says, “I like the Tetherball.” (He’s a bit sleep-deprived right now.) :D

So, how about you? Do you remember ever playing this game? Had the craze died out by the time I was in school? Are kids still playing it today?

  1. Bald Man says:

Tetherball was the rage in grades four and five. Maybe it was a South Carolina thing; when we moved to Ohio is was 24-square-7.

  2. Bald Man: I don’t think I would’ve been coordinated enough for tetherball, anyway. ;)

My kids play this at school and it is very popular. They play 4 suare also. It’s kind of funny to see that things haven’t changed much since I was a kid! My kids like it so much that we are making our own tetherball set in our backyard-and they have friends whose parents have done the same thing!

My kids loved tetherball. Especially in fourth grade. They’d go home and research for rules for the school and all that. We do have one at home and they want another!
