Have You Ever Used A Behavior Chart?

We’ve just started using a behavior chart for my son. We tried it once before, and it only lasted for a couple weeks. He was great about marking things off and following the chart when it was new. Then he started marking things off without doing them and making up his own tasks to do. So it didn’t work out, and eventually we just gave up.notebook

He’s a little older now so we decided to give the chart a try again this summer. He can do tasks without being asked to earn TV, computer, or video game time. He can also use it to earn some cash by helping out around the house and doing chores.

Some of the things included on his chart are:

  • 1 or 2 chores per day
  • brushing teeth, getting dressed, and taking a shower without being asked
  • making his bed
  • Spending a few minutes a day reading, or doing educational activities
  • Picking up after himself

If you use a behavior chart, I’d love to hear what you include on your chart, what rewards you use, and how you keep your children motivated.
