Could we really have an “Unofficial Elmo Day” without a nod to the man who makes Elmo who he is, Kevin Clash? I thought not, so here he is.
Kevin Clash first appeared with Elmo on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show when she was featuring the “Real People Behind Big Names.” That was the first time that I had any clue who provided Elmo’s voice and personality. Too cool.
Tavis Smiley (do you know Tavis? Awesome show on PBS) interviewed Kevin on his NPR radio show a few years back. Click here to listen! Elmo makes an appearence, too. It’s interesting to hear how Elmo came to be!
Thanks, Kevin, for being so great at your work, and for sharing it with the world!
PS Here are all the Play Library posts about TMX Elmo!

I would like to know how are the babies selected to appear on Elmo’s World. I have a beautiful 15 month old daughter and wanted to send her photo and would like to know if she has a chance of appearing on Elmo’s world. She loves Elmo so much and is very delighted everytime she sees him.
Hi Kevin I saw the show on Oprah and was very inspired by your work. Please tell me how could I get in touch with you because I have an idea that could be just as big or evan bigger than Elmo, yes no joke here. The next BIG THING.
I’m very much inspired by the work kevin Clash did on Elmo and would love for him to bring life to my new character I’ve been working on for Sesame street now for quit sometime. Please take that leap of faith.Sometimes the best things in life go un-noticed,this is the next BIG thing, maybe the next tickle me Elmo???
