The mysteries of the preschooler mind…. We made a trip to Toys R Us today. I thought we were looking for a toy cash register since we’ve been playing shop for the last few days. Little did I know we were actually looking for a dolly.
It was love at first sight. My son soon found this Little Mommy Play All Day Toddler Doll that has the sweetest voice and arms that move up and down, up and down.
Here in the UK, though, it’s almost $80! I had to find a way to distract him quick. No Star Wars figure or Dr. Who knick knack made him forget about our dolly. We wandered the aisles until somehow, he saw this Buzz Lightyear Star Command Cruiser. We have a winner!!
Lucky for him, his aunt is visiting in a couple of weeks from California and I’ve asked her bring him THE dolly. I’ll report back on how she’s received.
How do you distract your kids when they have their heart set on a super-expensive toy?

I say “Isn’t that nice? We’ll come back and see it again soon.”
Some things are just completely impractical. A lifesize robot shetland pony? A battery-operated mini-forklift? A princess play-castle? There is no place to put it, keep it, or use it. Epecially in the winter.
It’s like watching the monkeys at the zoo. They’re hilarious, child-like, and captivating, but we are not bringing one home.
Kate: That’s a good line. Mine is – “That’s cool. Let’s talk about it.” After a lot of talking (on my part), he’s completely muddled as to what he wanted in the first place. hehee
I still want a cash register. *pout*
If it’s close to her birthday or Christmas, then I tell her she has to wait for it. Doesn’t always work, though!
kailani: My son is getting the Teksta robot puppy from “Santa” this Christmas. It’s travelling here from my parents’ house via surface mail right now.
