day-care-in-india-malls Do you despise taking your kids to the mall with you because they are constantly asking you to buy stuff? Or maybe it takes you twice as long to do the shopping you need? I rarely take my kids to the mall by myself. It’s kind of a special occasion thing around our home and my husband and I will take the kids if they have some allowance to spend or we just want to get out and browse. I am thankful that my kids understand that sometimes we go there just to have fun together as a family and we WILL be leaving the mall empty handed. Teaching window shopping at a young age is a good thing. :D

Well, the latest family outing destination in Urban India is the malls. The malls know have daycare centers. Parents can leave their kids to go shopping, go to a movie or even go to work.

Vinod Padmanabha, head of retail concepts, Kool Kids at Inorbit mall said, ”The malls need us like they need the parking lots or washrooms. We thought of this model as people are very busy and they need to do certain things at the mall and cannot take their kids for everything. This is a business model that cannot be replicated easily. We are getting a lot of response for this.”

Rajeev Raval, a parent said, ”If we take the kids while we go shopping they want to buy all the toys they see and end up spending a lot of money. This way we save, this works out best because they can be here while we shop or relax.”

There are 22 Kool Kids centers all around India and it is gaining popularity.

My first questions was: how much does it cost? Will a person really save money at the mall by paying someone to watch their kids?

Kool kids charge Rs 60 an hour, and for every extra hour it will cost you Rs. 30.

Kangaroo kids and Kanga Play charge Rs 100 an hour and if you want to enroll your kids into pre-school, that will cost you around Rs 14,390 for six months.

In a city like Mumbai where people maintain hectic lifestyles and are under pressing deadlines, these centers are a solution that’s a boon.

Yeah, um, I have no idea how much that is in American dollars, lol!

So here’s a question for you: Would you leave your child at a daycare center in the mall? Do you see any benefits and do you think this will start to catch on at other malls around the world?
