Modernseed Furniture, Fashion, and Design for Kids

My husband and I own an apartment in Singapore that we’ve never lived in because of our expat lifestyle. It was renovated to our specifications last year but almost all the furniture are castoffs from his sister. When we finally get around to it, we plan to splurge on living room and dining room furniture where we spend most of our time. But, I’d also like to get some nice pieces for my son’s room as well.

Modernseed has some things that I think would be great for us because we are casual, comfortable, and natural. This Scando Family Table would be awesome.

What kind of family-friendly furniture do you have in your home?

  1. Kid friendly=hand-me-downs so I don’t care if someone spills=everything we own! I can’t see doling out cash for anything until the baby is at least 5, or 10, or in college…

We have a vintage kitchen table & chairs that my husband found at an estate sale when he was a bachelor. Kind of like this table and chairs but the chairs we have are covered with a cream/white colored vinyl.

    Very kid-proof.

I hate it. What I really want for a boy-resistant family table is a more rustic plank table kind of like this.

The vast majority of our furniture is cast-offs from relatives or things we’ve found at auctions. We got a great coffee table for the livingroom – and once the boys are past the stage of “scratching things up with toys” I’m planning on re-finishing it. Sand it down, wood-burn Celtic knotwork on it, re-seal it. :)

The boys current favorite piece of furniture is the big cardboard box Daddy brought home from work. We drew a big window with shutters and flowerbox on one side, cut out the windowpanes, and they’ve put their foam flip-couch inside. They like to sit in there, with their ankles propped in the window, and read books. LOL

  3. Kerri: Sounds like my kind of friendly home!

Deb: You know those benches are cool looking but I think they’re impractical. First, they’re usually really heavy and second, if one person moves, everybody else sitting on it has to move too. Meh.

My favorite coffee table I bought for $10 from a departing grad student. Sadly, I had to leave it behind in Baltimore. It was the perfect height to sit on the floor and do cross stitch.

The cardboard box sounds awesome! Hope they’ll let me in too. hehee
