More Teething Stories…

I can’t seem to get away from all of the teeth! I’ve mentioned before that the falling out of teeth really creeps me out. I don’t claim to know why, I just accept it. I’d move on from it all, but life won’t let me.
Just today watching Reading Rainbow, the book I Lost My Tooth in Africa by Penda Diakite (illustrated by Baba Wague Diakite) was featured. My daughter was thrilled because she’s still wiggling her front tooth at me, though I’ve forbidden her from doing it right in my face (yuck). She thought it was funny that another story was being written about teeth falling out! I liked this story, because it shared another culture’s tradition of the adult teeth rite of passage. No money under the pillow in this story. Oh no, you get chickens. Wouldn’t that be more interesting?
Okay, in researching the links for the author and illustrator of this book, I found out that the author wrote this when she was in elementary school, and her father created the beautiful illustrations. I think that’s amazing!
