Owen & Mzee: The True Story Of A Remarkable FriendshipIf you’re still in the market for children’s books (and I always am), here’s the list of New York Times Notable Children’s Books of 2006.

As an aside, I’d like to ask if you think books are a good birthday present for kids. I gave a book with accompanying CD to one of my son’s classmates this past week and I had the feeling he was not very thrilled and probably would have preferred a toy. What do you say? Book or toy for birthday presents?

I think it just depends on the child. I loves getting books for gifts, and still do. We have some young nephews that love books too, but I have cousins who have never really been much into reading, and they’re teenagers now. So it depends.
