This month’s Family and Relationship Channel’s theme is, what else?, LOVE! Happy February.
To fit with the theme, which will be hosted by Char Polanosky at our b5media sister blog, Weary Parent, I thought I’d start a list of all those fun outside games that we used to love as kids, and that seem to pass the test of time by being appealing to multiple generations. Games that required nothing more than a warm (or just not too cold) day, a few friends, and maybe a can or ball. Nothing fancy, just fun. My kids are just getting old enough to start teaching them some of these.

Okay, so, in reality, I hated dodgeball. When we moved during my 5th grade year, I ended up in a school that called the game “bombardment.” On rainy or snowy days, or any day that required inside recess, the 5th and 6th graders were required to spend the time in the gym. Once in the gym, you had two options 1: Play bombardment or 2: Watch people play bombardment. No boardgames or anything like that. Watch or play. I watched. However, unlike dodgeball, I LOVED four square!!! Much nicer game to play with the same type of ball. I can’t wait to teach my kids this game!

I have very vivid memories of playing Ghost in the Graveyard in our neighborhood as a kid.
Char: Yes, of course, Hide and Seek! It was in my head when I thought up the post, and lost somewhere before I hit “publish.” Double Dutch was fantastic, too!
