April rain brings May flowers. And with the rain, out comes the rain coats and rain boots. Some of us might also waterproof jackets and shoes as well (not me because I’m too lazy!). If you decide to use a waterproofing spray, please take care to do it in a well-ventilated area away from your children.
In Detroit, more than 170 people have become seriously ill with respiratory problems–coughing and shortness of breath–after using aerosol waterproofing sprays for boots. Jobsite Heavy Duty Bootmate and Rocky Boot Weather and Stain Protector have now been recalled.
Here are four guidelines when using aerosol waterproofing spray:
- Hold your breath when using waterproofing sprays.
- Do the work outside.
- Limit other people’s exposure (especially kids!)
- Keep pets away
And remember, we won’t melt if we get a little wet!
