Pumpkin Carving Kit for Halloween

Just a couple more weeks until Halloween and in preparation, many families are having fun carving pumpkins and reveling in pumpkin season. Consumer Reports has a how-to guide for how to carve a pumpkin safely. They recommend pumpkin carving kits like the one shown here that include a sawlike tool which is safer than using a knife.
…kids can draw a face on a pumpkin and clean out the innards. Work in a clean, well-lit area, and wash and thoroughly dry everything you use, including tools, the cutting surface, and hands. Any moisture can cause slipping that can lead to injuries. Cut away from yourself using small strokes. And if you’d rather not carve at all, pumpkin painting is a safe alternative.
Have a happy and SAFE Halloween!

Great advice. My 4 year-old is so excited about the jack-o-lantern we had to get the pumpkin yesterday!
Kate: I gotta haul a pumpkin home one of these days. They had these little tiny ones at Marks & Spencer that were about the size of a small soccer ball but how the heck are you supposed to carve that? Maybe we’ll paint it.
The carving kits work well. We’ve used them with the included designs as well as with our own ideas to great success. I think our tools have been long lost, but we might need to pick up another set this year.
Bald Man: Good to know the pumpkin carving tool kits aren’t just a gimmick!
