Radica’s Digi Makeover

I saw the Digi Makeover by Radica advertised on what used to be the Saturday morning cartoon hour. It looked kinda fun, you know, if I was a 10 year old girl. (Okay, who’s kidding who, I wanted to play with it right then!)
I remember there being discussions last year about toy companies trying to develop more electronic toys for girls. This looks like a result of that line of thinking. Basically, you can use the toy to take a photo of yourself and then digitally modify your hair, makeup, jewelry, etc. And, apparently, the toy hooks up to the TV where the images can be displayed. It looks like a ton of fun, but I do question the age range.
The toy is listed from age 6 and up. I’m wondering if that’s a bit young to be pushing the “how many differnt ways can I modify my image before I look pretty?” issues on our daughters. I know, I know, there’s enough evidence out there that the image issues start loooonnnggg before they hit that ripe old age of 6, but I’m wondering if this type of toy just encourages those image battles.
What do you think? Are toys like these just harmless fun or products that leave our kids feeling less than naturally beautiful?
