My nephew is a huge Thomas and Bob the Builder fan, so he was totally excited to check out these winter episodes, so we sat down to watch them with him. I always enjoy watching Bob, Kipper, and Thomas so it was fun to check out this winter and Christmas based collection of stories.

I remember when my son loved Bob the Builder, and Thomas and Friends. He’s going into the fifth grade this year, so of course he’s moved on to more action packed viewing. I still remember how fun and heartwarming some of the story lines were.

It was fun to hear all these childhood favorites will be starring in a new DVD, Trick or Treat Tales, produced especially for preschoolers. Here are some of the episodes included:

• Thomas & Friends – “Flour Power!”
• Barney & Friends™ – “Guess Who?”
• Bob the Builder – “Trix’s Pumpkin Pie”
• Fifi and the Flowertots – “Pirate Primrose”
• Angelina Ballerina – “The Costume Ball”

The DVD also contains a bonus episode from Fireman Sam, called “Cat Magic.” The new DVD from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment will be coming to stores on September 1, 2000, just in time for the fall, Halloween season.

That would never have been allowed when we were younger. I remember the great suspense of actually getting to wear the plastic printed apron and the matching plastic mask that made your face sweat about 30 seconds after putting it on. We must’ve bugged mom for days waiting to wear those coveted costumes!

Well, I bought the kids’ costumes a little early this year. In past years, I’ve made them. I just don’t have the patience, time, energy, or brain power this year. So, off we went to Target to find a few costumes before they were out of all of our sizes.

To my surprise, Jake opted for the Bob the Builder costume over his usual alter-ego, Tigger. But it was cute, so why not? Well, the darn hat broke before we even left the store, so we got a new one right there on the spot. Jake was so excited to wear it.

Normally, I’d make the kids wait until the actual day to wear their special outfit, but I’m really not sure why. Whose rule is that, anyway? So, after he asked to wear it the first time, I thought, why spend the next two weeks listening to him bugging me about it? As much as these darn things cost, why not get all our money out of it? Sure, half of it is going to be torn or broken by the time Halloween actually gets here. Chances are, though, that it’s going to be cold enough that he has to wear a coat over it by Trick-or-Treat night, anyway.

And this way, I have the benefit of a helper to fix my yard light now. (Yeah, right. He was breaking it.)

Mom-to-reader tip here: The costume is listed on-line at 31.99 (USD). I got it at Target for 16.99 (USD) and still thought that was a lot!!! But, there you go…..

I think this was her first experience with a video game, or at least the type that requires a joystick. Up to this point, I think her only experience has been on-line games at PBS and CBeebies. Certainly, it was a much more high-tech experience than my Atari 2600 of the 80’s!

She loved the Dora and Scooby-Doo games. I’m thinking her brother would get a kick out of The Wiggles and Bob the Builder games. We may have to add this one to the Christmas Wish List.
