I belong to an online forum for parents of triplets. I spent a lot more time on that forum searching for help when my triplets were first born than I do now, but one of the things I read on that forum a long time ago was a thread about teaching your children the alphabet. A parent was struggling with the process and looking for tips and advice. Repeatedly, other parents suggested that she try LeapFrog’s “Letter Factory” DVD claiming their own kids watched the DVD and knew the alphabet within a week or two.

I have to admit, I was intrigued by this miracle video, so I bookmarked it. When my triplets were 2, I bought “Letter Factory” to see if it really was all these other parents of triplets said it was cracked up to be. Turns out, they were right.

When I bought “Letter Factory”, my triplets had no idea what letters were. They couldn’t name any letters nor could they identify any letters. They showed absolutely no understanding or interest whatsoever.

I ordered my copy of “Letter Factory” and popped it in the DVD player when it arrived thinking my toddlers might still be too young for it. The first time it played, they watched with little interest. I tried again. The second time was the charm.

Suddenly, they really enjoyed this movie and watched it everyday after that. About two weeks later, they could recite the entire alphabet, recognize all of the letters and tell me what sound each letter makes. It was amazing. The miracle video worked. Suffice it to say, I was stoked!

So how does this DVD work so well? First, it’s a cartoon with cute characters which never hurts. Second, it incorporates music to not only teach each letter but also to teach the sound it makes. To the tune of “Hi Ho the Dairy-O”, children learn each letter and its sound. It’s pure genius. Kudos to LeapFrog for creating a DVD that truly teaches children something useful.

If you’re having trouble teaching your children the alphabet or just want a full-proof, easy and fast way for them to learn it, pick up a copy of “Letter Factory”. You won’t be disappointed.

I think once we’re all through this (the baby hasn’t gotten it, yet, and we’re hoping he stays clear of it!), I think I’ll be heading over to Bath Body Junky for some tips on getting rid of these continually developing dark and puffy circles under my eyes!
The DVD release of Disney’s The Little Mermaid is next Tuesday, October 3rd.
I’m really looking forward to it. We have the VHS at grandma’s house, but the tape has been watched so many times that we’re afraid it’s going to break! As a result, my kids have only seen this movie once or twice. I can’t wait for The Little Mermaid to be a part of their world.
Did you know that it won two Oscars and was nominated for another? Not bad for a cartoon.
