International Playthings provided me with an iPlay Air Hockey Game for my 3-year old triplets to test. Following is my review of this super cool toy.
Let me start by saying I had reservations about the iPlay Air Hockey Game before I received it. My kids love to go to the arcades at Walt Disney World, which is less than a half hour from our house. I saw the Digi Makeover by Radica advertised on what used to be the Saturday morning cartoon hour. It looked kinda fun, you know, if I was a 10 year old girl. (Okay, who’s kidding who, I wanted to play with it right then!)
I remember there being discussions last year about toy companies trying to develop more electronic toys for girls. This looks like a result of that line of thinking. Business Week Online has published an article questioning the longevity of Barbie as an American toy icon:
Sales for the iconic Barbie fell 1% worldwide, the 11th consecutive quarter of decline for the franchise. Indeed, it’s a worrying sign that kids like Katayan are starting to eschew Barbie for other, more interactive toys.
It is a question raised as the girls of the next generation have so many playtime options available to them. Are dolls and dress up being completely replaced by on-line games and other hi-tech toys?
