I had no idea that owning a little turtle could cause illness and possibly death! Did you? Hsien shared this article sharing the possible dangers to families owning small pet turtles, especially those with small children in the home.

Turtles, especially those with shells under four inches, are still causing illness — and death — more than 30 years after their sale was banned in the U.S., the CDC warned. In March, a three-week-old girl in Florida died of an infection of Salmonella pomona two months after her family had been given a small turtle, the agency said in a case report. Salmonella isolated from the turtle was indistinguishable by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis to the strain that killed the girl, according to the July 6 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Okay, I honestly didn’t even know that they were banned from sale! I’m glad I read this. There’s no telling how many reptiles my little guys will be bringing into our house, and now I know of at least one more thing to be careful of. I think we’ll try to stick to the plush, clean, inanimate pets for a good long while!

iDog Puppy Love

We have a new pet in the house! And, I don’t have to clean up its pee or poo either.

Our very generous friends, D and S, sent my son an iDog all the way from California. It is impossible to describe how cute it is when you have the darling thing in your hands. Smaller than the more sophisticated Robo Pet, it has the most adorable fuzzy colored polka dots on its face that flash in various patterns as it listens to music or is “petted.” The ears and head move in time to the music and the little sounds and purrs it makes are beyond cute!

Tomorrow, it’s going to keep me company while my kiddo’s at school.

According to Ganz regional sales representative, Lynn Obuchowski, Webkinz is the hottest product right now. (Do you agree? I haven’t heard a peep about Webkinz before). Webkinz are stuffed animals with online counterparts.

When you get a Webkinz, it comes with a password that allows you and your child to access the Webkinz website. There, you can set up a virtual home for your new pet and earn some free credits to get it some furniture and anything else a virtual pet could need.

Should be a lot easier to take care of than a living, breathing pet in the house!
