If you’re a Super Soaker fan, you’ll be glad to know this hear is the 20th anniversary of the Super Soaker. To celebrate Hasbro is reintroducing the Super Soaker 50. The updated version is due out this Spring and features a retro style, with a modern high powered performance.

The retro Super Soaker fits in great with the fun summer toys I featured the other day. This cool water toy holds up to 25 ounces of water, and blasts it up to 35 feet. My son will tell you that’s summer fun!

Wet and Wild Outdoor Summer Fun

It’s not quite summer yet, but it’s going to be 80` here today and tomorrow, so I sure am thinking about those warm summer days ahead. Those days when you need a little water in the mix to cool yourself off. So I went on a mission to find some fun water entertainment ideas.

I didn’t have to look far, SwimWays® has several backyard and water toys that will help keep your kids cool this summer.

The Splunk a Dunk game lets your kids use the backyard hose to make a fun toss game. Kids take turns tossing bean bags at a target, but watch out! If they hit the target everyone gets wet.

Pool Toys – Great Summer Fun!

One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid was playing games in the pool. My brother, sisters and I and our friends would spend hours and hours in our pool making up elaborate games and races, but we’d also spend a lot of time simply throwing rings or coins in the pool then finding them. When I saw the Swimways Spring Hoops Pirate Treasure Set, I immediately remembered those games I played as a kid and thought this toy rolled them all up into one.

The Swimways Spring Hoops Pirate Treasure Set comes with three hoops that submerge underwater as well as dive coins and is recommended for children ages 6 and up. I can think of so many fun games kids could play with this set. You could time your kids as they take turns swimming through the hoops. You could hide the dive coins around the pool and have the kids swim through the hoops to find them. You could buy two Swimways Spring Hoops Pirate Treasure Set and have two kids race eachother at the same time through the hoops.

This is a simple toy (hence the reasonable $19.99 price), but kids could have so much fun with it. The pirate theme adds to the many ways kids could use this toy once they put their imaginations to work.

Dangerous Pool Toys

From the “what were they thinking?” files comes a story of the possible dangers of a pool toy like the one pictured at the left and other similar pool toys. Do you really need a study to realize that a toy for the pool that looks like it could trap your kids inside could possibly be dangerous? I’d think that was a no-brainer. Apparently, I’d be wrong.

News station KGO-TV/DT features a video wherein Good Housekeeping tested a few of these toys, including the Erupting Volcano Island, Cool Castle, and UFO Habitat (pictured above) to see what incidents kids might encounter while trying to use them.

Am I the only one who remembers a time when the pool was the toy? (Excuse me while I go get my geezer on…)

Good Toys for a Buck

Do you love a visit to the dollar store? I do. And I love to share the experience with others.

Just a couple of months ago, I was with a family member who had never been in a dollar store of any type. I took her to a Dollar Tree. All she could say was, “And this? This is a dollar, too? What about this? Surely this isn’t a dollar?”

And I’ll I kept saying was, “Yep. That’s a dollar, too.”

No, you’re not going to find the latest, coolest, most expensive toys out there. But you will find a great selection of simple toys that can keep your kids busy during the long summer days. Sidewalk chalk, pool toys, bubbles, finger paints, coloring books, dolls, cars, wiffle balls, and the list goes on……

And the best thing? When your children get bored with one activity after about 5 minutes (let’s say, the sidewalk chalk, as a totally random example), it won’t bother you that you and your spouse are the only ones left drawing on the driveway. After all, it only cost you a dollar.
