Games For Travel From Minimus Games

Long car trips can be boring for kids. There are only so many times you can stand to hear “Are we there yet?” We travel quite a bit during the summer, whenever we have the opportunity we head out to the lake, or to the ocean.
When we head out for long trips I always try to make sure we’ve packed something for my son to do during the ride. Travel games are great, when it’s just him he enjoys playing solitary games, but sometimes we have one or both of our nephews along for the ride.

Minimus Games has some of …read more

Crayola Gift Ideas For Creative Kids

Crayola Gift Ideas For Creative Kids

Crayola has a whole line up of gift ideas for creative kids coming this holiday season. I know when I go shopping for my son and my nephews the first place I look is in the art supplies, or for gifts they can use to create. They’re always a hit. It’s gives them something to stay in touch with their creative side, even when they’re on the go.

One of my favorites is the Crayola Portable Art Studio. Kids can have all the art supplies they need all in one place. The best part for us is when we’re heading out …read more

Healthy Travel Snack Ideas For Kids

One of the things we hear when we travel with the kids is “I’m hungry…” which is second only to “Are we there yet?” We’re getting ready for a long car trip with my son and my nephews, so I’ve been researching some healthy snacks to take along for the ride.

Here are some of my top picks.

Make up a trail mix with some healthy nuts and dried fruits. Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, roasted pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, and raisins are all good choices to throw in your travel trail mix. Add a few M&M’s if you have a sweet tooth.
Homemade granola …read more

We Made It!!

We Made It!!

After a total of 28 hours of driving we made it to Colorado last night. The kids did absolutely wonderful and were just so excited about the simplest of things. We ran into some snow while driving and they just thought that was the greatest thing in the world. We also saw Santa Claus who was waving to all the passing drivers from a bridge in Alabama. Now that was cool!
Like I said in my last post, traveling with kids is never easy, but I feel this trip could not have gone any smoother. Here are a few quick pointers …read more

The First Half of Our Trip to Colorado

Well, as I am writing this we are currently in Alabama, on our way to our first stop Arkansas. We left at around 5 am this morning and I’m already feeling a wee bit sleepy. So far the trip is going really well and everyone is on their best behavior. Let’s see…only 8 more hours to go. Oh dear.
Traveling with kids can be tough, but it is possible to make it enjoyable too. That is our goal through this whole ordeal is to make it enjoyable. I am trying not to stress about the little things and I am hoping …read more

The Number One Travel “Toy”

The Number One Travel “Toy”

What’s the number one travel “toy” that helps keep parents and kids sane on a long road trip? You got it….the portable dvd player. We bought our first one about 6 years ago. This tv was a monster – not the tv screen, it was tiny, but the unit itself was a beast. It was one of those console tvs that fits in between the driver and passenger seat on the floor. It served its purpose and we got rid of it after we bought a car that it didn’t fit in anymore. I was glad to see that thing …read more

Road Trip Travel Toy #4: Favorite Teddy Bear/Pacifier/Blankie

Road Trip Travel Toy #4: Favorite Teddy Bear/Pacifier/Blankie

How I could have almost forgotten to mention this, I’m not quite sure. Thanks to Weary Parent for reminding me!
Each of my kids has specific things they like to sleep with. For my oldest, it’s her bunny blanket and her “first baby doll” that she’s had forever. Being a five year old, she can survive without these things, but they’re nice to have around. For my middle child, it’s his “Pooh pillow and car blankie.” Two things he rarely does without. For my baby, his fuzzy duckie blanket and his pacifier (only one specific …read more
