PlayLibrary is holding a contest that will run for two weeks, so everyone has a chance to enter! I’m giving away TWO MatchMaster Interactive Soccer Games (associated with The David Beckham Academy). Each MatchMaster game is royal blue and retails for $19.96. This game is recommended for kids ages 8 and up.

Here’s how to enter into the contest for a chance to win a MatchMaster Interactive Soccer Game:

Leave a comment on this post before 11:59pm Saturday, July 5th (Eastern Time) stating who you would give the MatchMaster game to if you won it and why. One comment per email address please. U.S. residents only.
Each comment will be entered into a drawing, and two winners will be selected randomly from those entries (each winner will receive ONE MatchMaster game).
The winners will be contacted via email, so please be sure you leave a valid email address in your comment. Please leave your email address in the box under your name instead of in the comment section.
The winners will be notified on July 6th. If the winner does not respond with his or her mailing address within 72 hours of the notification email being sent, he or she forfeits the prize and an alternate winner will be selected (same guidelines apply). Once a prize is claimed, the winner will be announced on PlayLibrary.

Contest Coming to Win a David Beckham Academy MatchMaster Hand Held Soccer Game

I’m very excited to announce a contest that is coming to PlayLibrary next week where you could win one of two MatchMaster Hand Held games. This new MatchMaster Head-to-Head Interactive Soccer Game is associated with The David Beckham Academy. The game tests players’ abilities to develop their performance by managing their daily schedule. It also teaches children how training, eating right and rest leads to better performance and health. Each player can also test their skills by playing the seven interactive training games as well as challenging other MatchMaster players in one of four Infra Red games.

The David Beckham Academy provides programs for young athletes ages 4-15 that teach the importance of hard work, healthy living, teamwork and the importance of having fun in sports. As you’d expect for a product with The David Beckham Academy name on it, MatchMaster is designed with parents and education in mind. Players have to select their “Daily Routine Planner” during certain parts of the game where they have to select meals, training and sleep to develop a stronger player.

MatchMaster is available exclusively at Wal-Mart (it just debuted on June 1, 2008), and it is intended for children ages 8 and up. The retail price is $19.96. The price is definitely worth it based on the amount of play a child can get from this toy. I particlulary like the option to challenge other MatchMaster players. Each day, your child will have to set his or her Daily Routine Planner determining how and when to eat, train and sleep, which will add to their lifelines. Players can even get injured then need to spend time nursing their video player back to health. I think the MatchMaster would be a great video game for the car, particularly if two players were riding and could challenge each other!

As part of the MatchMaster launch, there is also a MatchMaster Sweepstakes running through September 1, 2008 where you could win some really great prizes. Watch my post tomorrow for all the details about the sweepstakes.

The Fisher Price Smart Cycle Debate

One of the big toys during the past holiday season was the Fisher Price Smart Cycle. It’s won a variety of toy awards, but I’ve been really torn over this product. If you’re not familiar with the Fisher Price Smart Cycle, it’s a video game system that kids play while riding a stationary bike. Fisher Price also calls it a “learning center”. The YouTube video below includes an ad that will give you all the details.

I can understand the positive benefits of the Fisher Price Smart Cycle. If your kids are going to play a video game, then a video game that requires physical activity seems like a great choice. Also, I’d imagine this would be a good alternative during the winter months when kids can’t go outside and play. Finally, I’m glad many of the games for the Fisher Price Smart Cycle are educational and teach numbers, letters, etc.

However, there’s a part of me that doesn’t like the idea of getting my kids into video games too early. I know it’s highly likely that they’ll become very interested in video games eventually. Should I start them now just because this video game also provides some exercise? I’m torn. While the Fisher Price Smart Cycle seems like a cool toy, I’m just not sold on it yet.

I also wonder if kids will get bored of the Smart Cycle quickly? At about $100 from the Fisher Price website (less if you buy through Amazon or other retailers that offer discounts), it’s a hefty investment for a toy that is meant for children age 3-6.

What do you think of the Fisher Price Smart Cycle? Does your child have one? If your child has used one, what are your opinions of the Fisher Price Smart Cycle after watching him or her use it for awhile?

This first video from Expo tv is “Gifts That’ll Make Your Kids Geniuses – I Can Play Guitar“. Also, look for the secret word in the show for your chance to win $10,000. Now that might help with Christmas next year!
