Last week, the kids and I met some friends at the National Museum for the United States Air Force for a history lesson.
It’s really nice to live only 10 minutes from a National Museum, but I hate to admit that this is only the third time we’ve gone since the kids were born!
Last week, the kids and I met some friends at the National Museum for the United States Air Force for a history lesson.

It’s really nice to live only 10 minutes from a National Museum, but I hate to admit that this is only the third time we’ve gone since the kids were born! It’s one of those places that visitors or new residents to the area are quick to visit, but those of us longtimes here forget to venture over there. We’ll have to make it a more frequent trip, and take advantage of all the lessons and artifacts that are at our fingertips. And it’s a bonus because it’s all free!

Pictured above is reproduction of the Wright 1909 Military Flyer (the original is at the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C.). It is the first of so many aircraft on display at the museum. The boys (ages 3 and 1) were kept in the stroller so that they couldn’t run up to the displays and try to fly them, climb on the them, drive them, or otherwise break the rules. They certainly weren’t attentive to the planes the entire time, but thought they were pretty cool for the first 10 minutes or so. Next time we’ll just have to start 10 minutes into the museum, and continue that trend until we see the whole place!

What historical and educational treasures are near your home?
