The Northern New England Toy Test in Maine wrapped up a few weeks ago. This was a chance for a few kids 5 and under to test a some educational toys and see which ones they enjoyed the most and held their attention the longest.

A few were big hits among the kids, while some were either too hard or only held their interest for a few minutes. My favorite was the puzzle which made the animal sounds.

How would you like to feed your babies some brain candy? Yep, brain candy. Much better than that “other” candy that we still have leftover from Halloween. Ugh.

I received a couple of videos in the mail to review. They were Braincandy: Taste My World and Smell My World. My kids are 10, 8 and 3 and the videos are for 6 months to 3 years. I decided to put one of the videos in for my 3 year old to check out. He thought they were interesting but it didn’t keep his attention for very long at all. You have to know my son though. He has 2 older siblings so he has pretty much skipped things like Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr and gone straight for shows like Hannah Montana and Drake and Josh…but hey, he wants to watch whatever his older brother and sister watch. He also isn’t much of a tv watcher. He actually sat through a whole movie the other day and we were stunned! It was Shrek 3. Good movie.

So, I figured he wasn’t going to be a good reviewer for me, so I handed them over to a friend of mine who has twin one year old boys. Yes, she needs anything and everything to keep those boys occupied! Her boys have watched the videos a few times and they love them. She said it definitely keeps their attention. Her two other kids who are 7 and 4 even watch them sometimes, although they think they’re a little weird. Honestly, when I watched them, I thought they were a little weird too, but you know what, they didn’t create them for me did they? No, they created them for one year old little boys (and girls) who need to feed their brain and learn. The videos are great for that.

So, overall, the videos were a big hit in her house.

Okay, so, I’m making my way through the sites that Jennifer mentioned in the comments here, and I started with PsychoBaby and it made me laugh. Okay, the site itself didn’t make me laugh (though some of the products were cracking me up). But I started laughing because it reminded me of a backpack that I was shown the other day. A friend had bought this adorable little pink backpack for her daughter, completely girly with roses all over it. It wasn’t until she got it home that she noticed images of skulls intermingled with all of the roses in the print of the fabric. That cracked me up. (Yes, I know, it doesn’t take much!)

Anyway, looks like there are some cute and fun (and most definitely unique!) products over at PsychoBaby. I especially like the hat featured above, though all my kids came out with more than their share of hair. I wonder if they carry one for Bald Man, though.
