Toy Review – Beddy-Bye Baby

I was lucky enough to get a sample of a cool new game for children ages 4 and up called Beddy-Bye Baby from Briarpatch to test.  This game is all about racing across the board and collecting cards that represent things a baby needs to go to bed including pajamas, a teddy bear and a bottle.  The winner is the first to collect all three item cards and make it to the nursery to tuck their baby into bed.

This is a fun game that’s easy for kids to learn and play.

My only complaint is the penalization that some cards bring making players give up a card or move backwards.  If there is one thing that upsets preschoolers, it’s being penalized.  I usually skip those rules to keep my kids happy.  For example, when playing Candy Land or Chutes ‘n Ladders, we omit the cards and rules that require players to move backwards on the board.  It makes for a much happier game for everyone!  I did the same with Beddy-Bye Baby and the game wasn’t affected much.  My 4-year old triplets had more fun that way.  Older children can certainly play with the penalization rules enforced and understand and accept those rules.

Beddy-Bye Baby takes under a minute to set up and about 10-20 minutes to play depending on how many players there are (2-4 people can play).  It requires no reading and the rules are simple.  I do think the price of $18.99 is a bit high based on what you get though.

Overall, I give Beddy-Bye Baby a thumbs up.  I think it would make a particularly unique birthday party gift idea.

Have your kids played Beddy-Bye Baby?  What did they think?
