Toy Talk #19: The Poop

Wooden puzzles like this one make sounds when the correct piece is put in place. They also make sounds even when no one is playing with them. It’s a common complaint and something we’ve experienced before.
My son’s fruit wooden puzzle with sound scared the bejeezus out of us for a few nights when we turned out the lights in time for bed. It would say cheerily, “Orange! Lemon! Banana!” We figured it was just a friendly puzzle. But actually it’s just the built-in light sensors.
Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle’s new parent blog, The Poop, was really freaked out by it all.
The airplane is particularly scary. It’s supposed to imitate a jet taking off, but with no warning at 4 a.m. sounds like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are stampeding through our living room.
