Toy Talk: Casual Keystrokes

girl in boxKids love cardboard boxes. My mother-in-law, who’s a bit of a clean freak, doesn’t like my son to play with ones that have been out in the elements (in the mail or on a moving van) but when she’s not here, I let him play all he wants. Looks like Char at Casual Keystrokes has no qualms about letting her kids enjoy all the cardboard box goodness they want.

The box we have featured here [go by her post to see the great pic of her son couch potatoeing in the box] has been in the messy playroom since Christmas day. Since then it has been used for a castle, a hide away, a reading spot – more than once, has been fought over, decorated, and cherished. Don’t let my 5 year old know that her big brother used the box for a video game chair – she’ll have a fit. After all, she claims it as her box.

Char also maintains Doll Diaries: Resources, tips, tales and fun for doll lovers of all ages. My four-year-old has already enjoyed looking at all the pictures of the dolls.

Thanks for the feature! A little update on the box – after being used for the video game chair, the box became a puppet theater, and then today it met its demise – a trip to the dump. Anyhow, the 5 year old was crushed when she found out her beloved box was gone and let Daddy know. He gave her a smaller box for her puppet show, which has also been used as a stuffed animal “stroller”.

I used to go get old refrigerator boxes for my kids to play in and they’d decorate them and love them to death.

  3. Char: You could have a blog all about the many fun uses of cardboard boxes! Hmmmm. That’s an idea. ;)

Michelle: Refrigerator boxes are HUGE!! How did you cart them home in one piece?
