Toys for Children with Special Needs

Elmo & Cookie Monster Giggle BallBuying toys all and sundry is part of most family’s lives but for some, like my friend Kristina at Autism Vox, selecting the right toy is more challenging if their children have special needs. The National Lekotek Center is a “central source on toys and play for children with special needs.”

I previously wrote about AblePlay toy ratings. Toys R Us also has an online toy guide for “differently-abled kids.”

Each toy in the 52-page guide includes a detailed description of how it can be used, along with icons indicating whether the toy can stimulate development in such areas as creativity, self esteem, vision or hearing.
